3 Healthier Snacks to Provide Your Children

Any parent that counts wishes to see their children thrive and grow in the healthiest manner possible. While it’s true to say that depriving them of sugary snacks completely is not necessarily the healthiest way forward (as they need to know what these are like and have some experience as a growing, developing person), it’s not hard to see why many parents are turning their back on this kind of unhealthy consumption.

Offering a range of healthier, more nutritious snacks that won’t cause your child to stay up late or bounce around the room in their sugar rush is of course a better idea, and developing a love and taste for vegetables and healthy snacks in your child is something that will set them on the right dietary course for life.

If you’re lucky enough, you may run or live in proximity to a farm (or farm shop) where fresh produce can be found as a matter of course. Of course, as children develop, the healthiest possible snacks can ensure they thrive and grow, providing the best building blocks for physical development. But more than any high-minded ideals, healthy snacks just taste better. Let’s see some examples of how and why:

Roasted Vegetables

Roasted vegetables can provide a great additional snack to our children thanks to how tasty they are, and the additional flavors you can add without making them any less enjoyable. For instance, this garlic and parm asparagus recipe can serve as a beautiful accompaniment to dinner, or may be a wonderful light snack between lunch and your evening meal. Getting out children into the habit of asking for such quick foods can be much better than grabbing frozen food or a packet of chips out of the pantry.

Home Baking

From time to time, home baking can inspire you to provide absolutely wonderful cookies and other treats, knowing exactly what has gone into their creation. There’ll be no unhealthy added flavorings, or colorings, or sugars that you haven’t explicitly measured and provided for yourself. This way, when you feed your kids, you’ll know exactly what they’re consuming and the right time to give it to them, such as avoiding sugars before a certain time in the evening when they need to prepare to go to sleep. Home baking is also a great way to help your children get involved in the kitchen!

Fruit Lollipops

Fruit lollipops are always a good place to start, because while they do have sugar, this is natural, unprocessed sugar that comes from nature’s bounty itself, rather than a factory. For instance, opening up a watermelon, removing the seeds, and using a hand blender to turn it into liquid, then placing them in pre-portioned molds and freezing them overnight can provide a fantastic treat during a hot day, without your children feeling overstimulated by an incredible sugar rush that might come from supermarket-purchased alternatives.

With this advice, we believe you’ll continue to provide wonderful and healthier snacks to your children.
